My Golfing Journey and the Story Behind The Golf Addiction
Hi, I’m Luke, a lifelong lover of the game of golf and the creator behind the YouTube channel The Golf Addiction.
What started as a childhood hobby quickly grew into a lifelong passion—and now, thanks to YouTube, it’s something I get to share with a growing online community of fellow golf addicts.
I started playing when I was 10 years old and quickly caught the bug. By 12, I was competing regularly, and at 15, I broke the course record at my home club at the time, Wilton Golf Club. During my junior years, I was lucky enough to compete against some top-level players—including Matt Fitzpatrick, now a U.S. Open Champion.
While I’ve always enjoyed the competitive side of the game, some of my favourite memories are more social—like travelling to different courses during the summer holidays with friends. That social, exploratory side of golf has stuck with me ever since.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve been fortunate to play courses around the world. It was that love for discovering new places to play that led me and my good friend Stephen to start The Golf Addiction.
We created the channel to share our golf trips and experiences, and we added the Break Par Challenge to give each round a bit more focus and a goal to chase—while still keeping it enjoyable and light-hearted.
One of the more recent highlights of my journey was playing in Open Qualifying in June 2025—a huge personal milestone and a great experience that we were proud to document on the channel. (You can watch the full video there.)
Over time, I’ve also developed a real appreciation for golf course design, especially the work of Dr. Alister MacKenzie.
That interest really deepened after an event I played at Moortown Golf Club—The Faldo Series. His 1923 redesign of South Cliff Golf Club is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can make a course both challenging and enjoyable.
The layout reflects many of the ideas from his famous 13 articles of golf architecture—principles that still feel relevant today.
Playing South Cliff for the first time was a real highlight. You can see the influence of MacKenzie on so many of the holes, and experiencing those details in person added another layer to the round.
In our video from that day, I take on the course from the competition tees with the aim of breaking par.
At the end of the day, The Golf Addiction is all about sharing the game with others—whether that’s through showcasing great courses, testing ourselves with fun challenges, or just enjoying a round with good company.
I’m also proud and excited to be the ‘YouTube Golf Ambassador for South Cliff Golf Club’ – it’s an honour to represent such a historic and beautifully designed course, and I look forward to continuing to showcase everything it has to offer.
